About Us

Caring for our county's animals for over a century

The St. Lawrence Valley SPCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal shelter in Ogdensburg, New York. For more than 100 years we've given unwanted, lost, and surrendered animals a safe place to land — and a second chance at a loving home.

Our Mission

To provide quality care for unwanted animals, alleviate pain and suffering, promote quality adoptions, advocate spay/neuter as the only humane method of pet population control, and educate the public on the humane treatment of all animals.

"We can't save every one, so we do what we can, when we can."

Our Story

More than 100 years of service

The St. Lawrence Valley SPCA has completed over a hundred years of service to animals in St. Lawrence County and beyond. Across those years, countless animals have been placed in forever homes, reunited with their families when lost, and kept safely in their homes after their owners consulted with our staff.

Like all nonprofits, we depend on the generosity of our community to continue this work. Every adoption, donation, and volunteer hour helps us care for the next animal who needs us.

What we do every day

  • Shelter and care for unwanted & surrendered animals
  • Spay, neuter, and vaccinate animals before adoption
  • Match animals with loving adopters
  • Help reunite lost pets with their owners
  • Advocate spay/neuter and humane treatment
  • Offer guidance and resources to local pet owners

A note on safety & scams

The St. Lawrence Valley SPCA will never ask you to wire money or pay to adopt a pet sight-unseen. Our only adoption application is the one linked on this website, and every adoption is completed in person at our shelter.

If you see a social-media post offering purebred puppies in exchange for a wire transfer or deposit, it is a scam — please do not send money. When in doubt, call us directly at (315) 393-5191.

Be part of the story

Adopt a friend, make a gift, or lend a hand — every bit of help means another animal cared for.
